Our Network of over 850 high-tech KOKO Fuel ATMs - we call them KOKO Points - is designed to ensure that our customers can always access clean cooking fuel during the Agent shop's opening hours.
Years of time, effort and investment have gone into ensuring the Network is seamlessly supplied with fuel, with each KOKO Point sending a data heartbeat (including fuel level, power status, safety and technical health data) to our Network Operations Centre every minute.
Yesterday, this commitment to provide convenient energy access to our customers was tested like never before, with a countrywide power outage in Kenya for the bulk of the day, after a major high voltage transmission line collapsed in Nairobi (see left-side photo above).
Despite this, we were able to continue selling fuel to our customers, with the backup power batteries kicking in for all our KOKO Points. This kept them operational and kept the fuel flowing throughout the entire blackout. In the Network map above (right-side photo), the orange dots indicate KOKO Points running on back-up battery power yesterday afternoon.
We're relieved that Kenya's power supply has returned to normal, but are also pleased to have continued serving clean fuel to our 320,000 household subscriber base in the midst of this major disruption to the grid.
